Frequently Asked
QUESTIONS

This feature is always 'under construction'. If there are questions you would like to see added to what we have already listed, please let us know in an e-mail addressed to editor@Wheatley.Lib.NC.US

Now it's your turn to answer a question. The e-mails we receive from the visitors to Hotels-near-Airports.com are very important. We take all comments very seriously and at times, resulting from these e-mails, we add new features or change old features. For instance, we added the amenities columns because many of our correspondents asked for them. Is there something you would like to see added- or changed? Please, take a few moments and send us your comments.

Thank you,

How do I access the information about an airport?
In our effort to make access to this information as simple as possible we have designed the 'home' or index page of the Hotels-near-Airports web site to allow many different ways of accessing this information. On the 'home' page are links to the top 24 airports in the United States as well as links to directories sorted by CITY, STATE, and the official IATA airport code. There are also links to the Canadian airports, listed in the same formats.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

How do I translate your 'price range' codes into dollars? (the $$ column)
The price range codes (E, M, U & L) are guides to the price bracket of that hotel. Conventionally, the determining room rates have been set at Economy = under $50, and the other at $50+, $100+ and $150+ respectively. We have seen many hotels setting their room rates at $49.50, etc., to get their properties classified as offering economy rates, — and the same with the other brackets.

We use the following definitions:

  • Economy = $48 and below
  • Mid-range = $49 through $94
  • Upscale = $95 to $145
  • Luxury = anything above $145

These classifications do not categorize the hotel because many hotels have rooms in most or all of these ranges. Some even maintain special floors for those who wish to enjoy special amenities - and can afford to pay - the Luxury rates.

Also, these classifications are not fixed in concrete for two reasons.

Firstly, room rates change at most hotels; the more they need guests, the lower the rates so if there is a special event in the area and they expect to have a full house, the rates will be higher for that period of time.

Secondly, if all the properties near a given airport are very expensive, we move the dividing lines up a little bit.

And, finally, we do not consider 'government rates' which are usually significantly lower. If you are a government employee, you probably already know what your rate will be.

Remember, price is not everything. What is important is what you can expect to get for the money you spend. So review the descriptions very carefully. To assist you, we have provided Travelers' Reviews. We suggest you read them carefully.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

Why are the city names omitted from your map of the USA?
Space. There really isn't enough space to fit in all the airport codes we would like to have appear on the map. Computer monitors, being so limited in size, just do not have the display capacity for that much detail and have the labels legible to the viewer.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

What is a 'clickable' map and how do I use it?
Our 'clickable' maps have links to other pages with relevant information. If you place your mouse arrow over the link and left-click your mouse you will go to that page. Above each map are instructions telling you what to 'click' on to view hotels near the airport or to View Hotels offering Discounts in that city.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

Your map of (any city) is inaccurate.
You're absolutely correct. All of our maps of the local area are designed to help you see the relationship of the local airport(s) to the primary city as well as any other communities within a reasonable distance. We only include the highways which help orient you to relative positions of these communities and the airport(s) and, usually, only include the communities in which there are hotels which offer discounts. The larger and more detailed the maps the longer it takes them to load. Some - because of the number of communities represented, can take over a minute to load if you are using a dial-up modem. (All maps load almost instantly if you are a cable and DSL user.) If you are using a dial-up modem you may wish to avoid accessing the maps.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

How can I know what city is represented by one of the airport 'codes'?
Most Internet browsers released within the last four years support the 'title' feature. By holding your mouse cursor over the airport code, the name of the city will appear in a few seconds. There are also directories organized by the official (IATA) airport code, by city name and by state (in the United States). See links on the 'home' page.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

Why aren't all hotels or motels listed?
We only list hotels and motels offering discounted rates through the major room brokers (e.g., Pegasus, Saber World Choice). Some of these hotels offer discounts on a temporary basis so you may get an error message telling you that a specific hotel "is not available at this time". You are then given the opportunity to check other properties in that geographic area. Other factors affecting the availability of discounts are seasonal popularity and special, very popular, activities in the area. Discounts are resumed when the hotels 'get hungry' for guests' again.

There is a full-time, continuing effort to bring you the best possible room rates.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

Why are some hotels and motels listed in barely legible gray type?
These are properties concerning which there is one or more unresolved situations. Until the situations are completely resolved, we do not accept reservations for them.

We make every effort possible to maximize the probability that the hotel or motel you select will prove equal to your expectations.

If you encounter a problem, send an e-mail to us at:

HELP@Wheatley.Lib.NC.US

Though we have no authority over these properties, we are able to exert some influence in resolving 'situations'.

Who and what is Wheatley Memorial Institute?
Wheatley Memorial Institute of Information Sciences was created in 1974 as a not-for-profit corporation under section 501 (C) (3) of the 1954 Internal Revenue Code. The Institute is an electronic library engaging in the necessary research to acquire, classify, store, retrieve, disseminate and utilize information by man-machine systems and networks. So much for the legaleze. For nearly three decades, Wheatley has been involved in the improvement of the understanding and use of computer systems as tools in making the right information available to the right people at the right time. Originated in 1999 by a private grant, this project is formatted to utilize information from previous projects to present (to the traveling public) Interstate Highway exit locations and particulars, available lodging, etc. We started with the Interstate Highways in North and South Carolina, expanded it to cover the central and south Atlantic Coast states*, added California and Nevada and now include the primary 1 and 2 digit Interstates in the U.S.A. In addition to available, discounted lodging, information will include links to our What-Where.info web site which lists principal attractions in North America.

RETURN TO QUESTIONS

Does Wheatley have other web sites that may be of interest to me?
Wheatley Memorial Institute has designed and operates many web sites with the mission to be of assistance to tourists and travelers. These web sites are continually being improved as we receive suggestions from our many site visitors. We would be very grateful if you would share your opinions and experiences with us.

Please note that one common thread throughout these web sites is booking hotel/motel rooms for you. We receive a small commission for most reservations. It is the income from these commission that helps cover the cost of operating these web sites. These websites include:

(click on title to visit that web site)

Note: we have temporarily omitted London's Heathrow (LHR), Paris' Orly (ORY) and Rome's Flumicino (FCO) airports which we had previously included due to the many requests.

Hotels-near-I-40.com

This web site is limited to those that are easily accessed by folks in family sedans (no 4-wheel drives required) and a short, easy to moderate walk to a good viewing area. We expect that many of these families will be accompanied by smaller children.

What-Where.info

A directory of many favorite attractions, mostly in the United States, but including some in Canada.

wheatley.lib.nc.us

A brief description of the Institute, its founding and purposes.
